SOCIAL OUTREACH
To augment the quality primary education to meet the objectives of Education For All (EFA) and reduce the out-of-school children which comprises with dropout plus never enrolled children, honorable Governor of Odisha launches a literacy campaign “Gyanalok Scheme” under the flagship of Govt. of Odisha. Keeping in view to improve the literacy rate and to reach the education to all, Bhubaneswar Institute of Industrial Technology(BIIT) is prominently implementing the Scheme by adopting two tribal villages i.e Totabadi and Vejiput of Talabasta Grampanchayat in Banki Sub-division of Cuttack district. From the very outset of the implementation of “Gyanalok”, all the stake holders of BIIT including all the staff members involved in the process actively. Before launching the scheme in these two villages,along with other staffs have visited these villages several times and collected the data on education, health care, sanitation, livelihood and the like.
The BIIT team has discussed and interacted with the beneficiaries, parents, communities, PRI members etc. on different issues on primary education. Why the children have dropout from the school system or in spite of school going age why a child is not interested to go school? Whether the school is not attracting them or whether the economic condition of their parents doesn’t permit them to attend the school? By taking many questions in mind, the BIIT team has visited one Sevashram School at Totabadi. That school is having class I to V with 40 students, but all the classes is integrating only in a single class room.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains over a week and release of huge quantity of water from Hirakud reservoir has caused havoc in Orissa. Dwarika Mohanty and Sameer Senapati ,7th Sem students of Bhubaneswar Institute of Industrial Technology (BIIT) took the initiative to provide a helping hand to the flood affected people. A group of 25 students & 4 Staff members on 18.9.2011, visited villages Chandapada, Munida & Radhua under Kanasa block,the worst affected areas of Puri Dist.
They visited each individual house of the affected areas and provided them biscuit, chuda, sugar, water, candles , matchbox & drinking water.
Fitness Program at Totabadi Sevashram by BIIT:-
Social outreach committee members of BIIT have visited the school Totabadi Sevashram (Class-I to Class-V ) time to time to review the process of “Gyanalok Scheme” implemented by the institute.The staff of BIIT visited the school and discussed the progress and issues such as dropout rate of students from the school .Due to intervention of BIIT the enrollment ratio has been increased for the current academic year i.e.2011-12 as compared to academic year 2010-11.During the visit the staffs of BIIT have distributed school kit and study materials to magnetize the students towards their studies.A fitness program has been conducted by BIIT in which the height & weight of individual students have been taken.The students have been given advice upon sanitation, use of pure drinking water and benefits of cleanliness.The sports officer of BIIT made students comfortable by playing various games with the students. They have been informed about disciplinary actions.The college has promised to provide further assistance & channelize the resources as required by the school.In that visit, the BIIT team has distributed school kits along with Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) to the students and teachers respectively to accelerate the teaching learning process. More over all the staffs of BIIT have adopted and agreed to give patronage to at least 1 or 2 children on that school till they’ll be graduated from that school and to maintain a sound completion rate as well as to reduce the drop-out rate.
